Public Speaking Self-Assessment
Discover your communication strengths, identify growth opportunities, and develop the confidence to speak with greater clarity, influence, and purpose.
The Public Speaking Self-Assessment is a practical coaching tool designed to help you evaluate your current public speaking abilities across the core skills that contribute to effective presentations. Whether you speak in business meetings, classrooms, churches, conferences, interviews, or community events, this assessment provides a clear picture of where you excel and where focused development can have the greatest impact.
Unlike a simple personality quiz, this assessment is designed to be a coaching and development resource. It measures specific presentation skills, provides personalized feedback, and offers actionable recommendations to help you become a more confident and effective communicator.
How It Works
The assessment takes approximately 5 minutes to complete and consists of 8 evidence-based evaluation areas. For each area, you’ll rate yourself using a 7-point scale, where:
- 1 = No experience or rarely demonstrated
- 4 = Moderate proficiency with room for growth
- 7 = Expert-level and consistently demonstrated
There are no right or wrong answers. The goal is honest self-reflection so your results accurately reflect your current abilities and provide meaningful coaching recommendations.
What You’ll Be Evaluating
The assessment measures three essential dimensions of effective public speaking:
Preparation
Strong presentations begin long before stepping onto the stage. This section evaluates your ability to prepare thoroughly by assessing:
- Strategic planning
- Slide and visual design
- Rehearsal habits
Preparation creates confidence and allows speakers to deliver messages with greater clarity and professionalism.
Delivery
Effective communication depends on how your message is presented. This category examines:
- Voice modulation
- Speaking pace and content balance
- Confidence while presenting
These skills help audiences stay engaged while making your message more memorable and persuasive.
Presence
Great speakers do more than deliver information—they create meaningful connections with their audience. This section measures:
- Audience engagement and rapport
- Effective use of presentation technology
Presence reflects your ability to communicate naturally, adapt to your audience, and maintain credibility throughout your presentation.

After completing the assessment, you’ll receive a comprehensive coaching report that includes:
- Your overall communication score
