Perceived Stress Assessment (PSS-10)

Stress is a part of life, but how you experience stress can have a profound impact on your health, relationships, work, leadership, and spiritual well-being. The Perceived Stress Assessment (PSS-10) helps you understand not just how much stress you’re carrying, but how you are experiencing it. It is based on one of the world’s most widely used psychological screening tools for perceived stress.

Rather than measuring the number of stressful events in your life, this assessment measures your perception of those events—whether life has felt overwhelming, unpredictable, or difficult to manage over the past month. Two people can experience the same circumstances yet have very different stress levels. This assessment helps identify where you currently stand.

How It Works

The assessment consists of 10 evidence-based questions that ask about your thoughts and feelings during the past month. Most people complete it in approximately 10 minutes.

For each question, you’ll select how often you experienced a particular feeling:

  • Rarely
  • Almost Never
  • Sometimes
  • Fairly Often
  • Very Often

Some questions assess feelings of being overwhelmed or out of control, while others measure your confidence and ability to cope with life’s challenges. To ensure an accurate overall picture, several positively worded questions are scored differently using a standard psychological method known as reverse scoring.

What Your Results Mean

Once you’ve completed the assessment, your responses are combined into a single overall stress score ranging from 0 to 40.

Your results are grouped into one of three stress levels:

  • Low Perceived Stress – You are generally managing life’s demands well and demonstrating healthy resilience.
  • Moderate Perceived Stress – Current pressures may be beginning to affect your well-being, making it a good time to strengthen healthy coping habits.
  • Elevated Perceived Stress – Your stress level suggests that intentional support, recovery, and practical changes may be beneficial.

The assessment is designed to increase self-awareness—not to diagnose a mental health condition.

Your Personalized Coaching Report

Immediately after completing the assessment, you’ll receive a personalized report that goes beyond a numerical score. Your report includes:

  • An explanation of your current stress level
  • Practical coaching insights
  • Personal strengths you can build upon
  • Areas for growth and resilience
  • Recommended next steps
  • Reflection questions for deeper self-examination
  • Relevant Scripture passages for encouragement and spiritual reflection
